Living in Wyoming is unlike living anywhere else in the world. Not only do we have a variety of landscapes, from desert to mountain, but we have a huge variety of towns, too. There are busy cities like Cheyenne and Casper, and then there are tiny, almost ghost towns. Take a day trip to Atlantic City to step back in time and enjoy a charming town in thats’s truly in the middle of nowhere.

Wyoming is full of secrets, and there’s one delightful and remote mining town hiding just off of WY-28. If you’re looking to check out what Wyoming looked like a hundred years ago, make a trip out to Atlantic City.

The well-graded gravel road that brings you into town can be a bit challenging after some weather, so you’re best bringing a high clearance or all wheel drive vehicle on your trip.

Be sure to pay attention on your drive in! You can spot the former gold and silver mines, like the Duncan Mine, along the road.

Today, the town is experiencing a bit of a resurgence as a rest town along the Continental Divide Trail.

You should also plan to grab a drink at the Merc! Atlantic City Mercantile was built as a general store in 1893, and eventually reshaped as a tavern in 1964.

Despite the small population and off-the-grid location, Atlantic City is an old fashioned town that’s busy in its own way. You’ll enjoy every minute spent here.
