If you’re familiar with Viking, you know that the cruise line prides itself on offering some of the most upscale travel experiences for passengers. While Viking is primarily known for offering incredible river and ocean cruises throughout Europe, a newly announced expansion will allow customers to explore one of America’s most breathtaking natural regions. That’s right: Viking plans to offer a variety of cruises on the Great Lakes, opening a new chapter for the company and the Great Lakes region as a whole.

Flickr/Huynh Helen The Great Lakes aren’t traditional spots for cruise adventures, but Viking’s new offerings hope to increase tourism to the region and expose travelers from across the world to the freshwater beauty that abounds throughout the area. Just last week, Viking announced three new and exciting Great Lakes expeditions, each of which will last for eight days and either begin or end at the Port of Milwaukee.

Other planned ports include Niagara, Toronto, and Thunder Bay, each offering visitors the chance to learn more about Lakes Michigan, Huron, Ontario, Erie, and Superior.

Marie, Michigan. For cruisers who value rugged beauty and lesser-known gems over heavily trafficked European regions, Viking’s new additions promise to deliver.

Have you embarked on a cruise with Viking in years past? Would you be interested in cruising your way through the gorgeous Great Lakes? We would love to hear all about your experiences and future travel plans, so be sure to leave us a comment below with your thoughts!
