There are worse places to enjoy a meal than in Maine. But, of course we all know that. Between the coastal seafood shacks and the five-star spots in larger towns and cities, whatever your budget and palette there’s something just for you. While we love thinking about the menus at these places, in Maine we have the benefit of being able to enjoy the surroundings just as much. This place is one of the most special, which is why it’s a favorite.

You’ll find the beautiful Kawanhee Inn & Restaurant in Weld, somewhere between Webb Lake and the lovely Tumbledown Mountain.

The setting is stunning and in the spring and summer the grounds are awash in rich greens and the deep blues of the lake.

And in the fall, colors are everywhere making this a magical escape for leaf peepers who come from away and those who are local.

The dining room inside is rustic and cozy, but not at all boring.

Especially if you like your dining experiences to come with a moose’s head on the fireplace!

But outside is our favorite. The views here are peaceful and serene, making the restaurant feel like an escape even if you’re just here for the meal. Although, staying overnight is always a wonderful option given that this is also an inn.

And lest you think that this place is all about the views, you’re going to want to check out the menu. The food here is always changing, so you can visit many times and never have the same thing.

From full seafood meals to smaller, more casual dishes the food here is great for any appetite.

And we all know you can’t leave without dessert.

Once you’ve indulged in it all, enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sunset over the lake. We’re pretty confident that you’ll be back for more!

There’s another restaurant tucked away that we love just as much. This hidden restaurant in Maine is surrounded by breathtaking views (and they’re extra-special in the fall!)
