As soon as the weather starts to get warmer, Georgians will begin to step out of their wintertime cocoons and start planning some fun spring activities. We have a weekend lined up that will likely be outside of your usual wheelhouse, but we guarantee the kids will love it, as will the nature enthusiast in us all. Check out this weekend of gem mining in Georgia this April.

Taking place April 24th through 26th, 2020, get ready for the ultimate gem mining experience in Georgia at Graves Mountain—the same place Tiffany’s mined for rutile, a substance used for polishing diamonds in the 1920s!

This mountain has been a premier source for a wide variety of stunning minerals and gems, from hematite to kyanite, and more.

During this specific gem mining weekend, guests will have access to the mountain from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

While you can make a reservation with the company privately for a dig at any time during the year, these weekends only happen twice a year, so it’s important not to miss out.

Here’s the kicker though—this event is completely free to attend and mine and dig for as many stunning gems as you can find.

It is recommend though, that you give a donation, as the maintenance of the property isn’t cheap and uses funds in order to keep things running smoothly.

Find some seriously cool iridescent gems or swap your findings with a nearby miner—the opportunities to walk away with a real treasure are endless.
