The cozy state park is flanked by Raystown Lake and Rothrock State Forest, so you’ll probably feel a million miles away from the craziness of everyday life.

Explore the park on one of its 12 miles of trails. However, prepare yourself for a challenge, as each of the trails is rated “more” or “most difficult” hiking.

Although the trails are difficult, the rewards are well worth it. Balanced Rock Trail, which meanders just .12 of a mile, features a suspension bridge, Balanced Rock, and the breathtaking Rainbow Falls.

Even if you’re not in the mood for hiking, you’ll still find plenty to do at the state park. Bring your binoculars for a bit of wildlife watching. The park is home to black bears, white tailed deer, and bald eagles.

Biking and picnicking are also popular at the park, which welcomes guests to camp out overnight. Park your RV, or check into the year-round Trough Creek Lodge.

The lodge and the park are open all year. It’s definitely worth a visit to see the foliage in the fall and to go snowmobiling in the winter.
