Just this past weekend there was a fire near the Southwest Florida International Airport that caused quite the commotion. Making waves as headline news, this airport fire led to severe damage to a few thousand rentals cars as it caught flames for reasons still being investigated. It was a grim scene in Fort Myers, Florida as over 3,500 rental cars were damaged or destroyed due to a fire that occurred by a southwest airport.

While firefighters did respond to the call quickly and contained the fire late in the evening on Friday, there were still thousands of cars that either suffered damaged or were destroyed.

There were around 3,500 cars in the overflow lot that were spared damage from the fire.

The Aviation Unit completed over 80 drops over the fire, as reported by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in an effort to control the flames.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the area is under watch currently to ensure that the fire does not pick back up again.
