If you’re well-versed in Idaho history, then you probably already know that the Albertsons grocery chain was founded right here in the Gem State. Today the company boasts over 400 stores across the country, but the popular grocery chain still boasts an extra special relationship with its birthplace in Boise. Both Joe and Kathryn Albertson are iconic figures in the City of Trees for the impact they made on the community, and their legacy lives on with the Albertsons grocery chain. In fact, one of the most recently opened Albertsons stores promises to take your shopping experience to the next level. This massive grocery store is a great place to get your shopping done, but you’ll see that it’s so much more than that.
First opened in July 2018, the Albertsons on Broadway in downtown Boise was the first of its kind in Idaho. The massive store is far from your typical grocery shopping experience and is considered a haven for foodies in the Gem State.

First of all, this Albertsons is absolutely massive. Comprised of nearly 70,000-square-feet and two stories, the store was constructed as an homage to Joe Albertson’s famously innovative spirit—we can definitely tell!

Of course, the grocery selection at Albertsons on Broadway is simply huge. Upon walking inside, you’ll discover aisles upon aisles of food items of both the average and unique variety. The beer and wine selection alone is considered the largest in Idaho.

However, the store truly shines when it comes to their assortment of all-natural, organic offerings. Featuring a humongous produce area that is packed to the gills with fresh fruits and veggies (some of which you may not have even known existed before), this store is an herbivore’s delight.

The bakery section is also very notable, boasting hundreds of made-from-scratch goodies. You won’t be able to resist checking out their wide selection of pies, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, bread, and other sweet treats.

However, what really sets this Albertsons apart from the rest are the in-store and on-the-go dining options. Downstairs you’ll find a sushi bar, pizza oven, a kitchen that boasts freshly-made items like burritos and sandwiches, and a hot food bar that’s full of piping hot, mouthwatering eats.

But that’s not all! Head upstairs and you’ll stumble upon their in-house bar and restaurant, complete with an indoor dining area and outdoor patio space. The bar, called Broadway on the Rocks, stands on its own and many people will visit the store specifically to have a drink or indulge in their delicious happy hour options.
