As you start to plan for more time outside, consider how your hikes can start incorporating as much of Maine’s beauty as possible. There’s always the trees of the forest or lakes, but we love that this hike leads to a beautiful waterfall. It’s a fairly easy route and it offers a chance to bring some peace and quiet to your racing mind.

You’ll find the Cascade Gorge Trail on the 50-acre Cascade Stream Gorge Conservation Area. The region is beautiful and diverse, offering lots of wildlife to see. It’s this diversity and beauty that has helped it earn a spot on the Maine Registry of Critical Areas.

The trail is just under a mile and meanders through the woods. But our favorite part is that it offers a consistent view of the Cascade Stream.

This is the perfect hike for kids who don’t find a walk through the woods entertaining but would appreciate being able to track the sounds of the waterfall. Since you can see and hear it fairly quickly after leaving the trailhead, even the most impatient hiker will feel satisfied.
