Next time you’re itching to get outside and do some exploring, take a trip across the Causeway and check out the Tammany Trace, where you’ll be lead through five charming towns near New Orleans.

The Tammany Trace is a converted rail-to-trail that’s perfect for anyone looking to do some exploring.

Sharon Audler/All Trails The paved trail is great for runners, bikers, and rollerbladers alike. There’s even an equestrian trail that runs for certain parts.

Established in 1992, the trail runs for about 31 miles.

When it became obsolete, St. Tammany Parish wanted to find a way to use the abandoned railroad.
