This enchanting, labyrinth-like drive through the notch of Mt. Mansfield is nothing short of spectacular. Vermont is full of winding roads and picturesque drives, but cruising along Vermont Route 108 (The Notch Road) and twisting through the nooks and crannies of this extreme and bucolic road that runs through the narrow shoots of Mount Mansfield is easily the most scenic and glorious drive in the whole state.

Vermont Route 108 is 45 miles in length, stretching from Jeffersonville to Stowe, and winds through the impressive Mount Mansfield State Forest.

Heading along Vermont Route 108 from Jeffersonville you’ll find plenty of places to pull over and explore the surrounding area. There are numerous hikes in the area, such as the Long Trail and Bingham Falls.

There’s nothing quite like this section of Vermont Route 108. The winding nature of the mountain road and the natural tree tunnel all come together to make this one of the most astonishing and exciting drives in Vermont.

Not the whole route is full of tree tunnels and impossibly sharp switchbacks. On other parts you’ll find open vistas and mountain views.

The drive takes about an hour to an hour and a half without stops. But we recommend stoping and exploring hiking trails, visitors centers, and other pull-offs.
