Nebraskans are proud of our history, a fact that shows in our wealth of museums and other historical attractions. There are several reconstructed historical villages throughout the state, but today we’re featuring one that came about because of one community’s tireless efforts to preserve its history.
The Howard County Historical Society’s Historical Village is located on Sixth Street in St. Paul. It consists of six restored vintage buildings from St. Paul and surrounding areas.

In this tiny village you’ll find a post office, a school, a general store, a church, a blacksmith shop, and a Union Pacific depot.

Some of the buildings were donated to the Historical Society, while others were purchased by the Society and moved to their new home. All of them are maintained and restored by committed community volunteers who come together with one goal in mind: to preserve the area’s rich history.

The brick Gruber House across the street is also owned by the Howard County Historical Society. It houses a wealth of exhibits and artifacts from Howard County, St. Paul, and beyond.

When the village is open during the season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), you can visit these lovingly restored and well-maintained buildings and displays and enjoy learning about Nebraska history.

The Historical Village is often the site of community celebrations. The annual Christmas festival held here is one of the most beloved in the area.
