As the land of supper clubs and cows, we don’t have to go too far to find a really great steak here in Wisconsin. But tucked away a bit off the main drag in Cedarburg, north of Milwaukee, is a small little spot in a 150-year-old fieldstone farm house that is just bursting with rustic charm and some really, really, really delicious steaks. They don’t take reservations and the space is small, especially in winter when they can’t take advantage of their outdoor space, but we promise the garlic-glazed steaks here are absolutely worth any wait. The Farmstead is housed in a small farm house that’s been around nearly as long as the state itself. The whole restaurant is bursting with charm. The decor is antique rustic chic, the dress code is casual and the food is phenomenal.

Most everything is cooked up on a tiny grill you can see - and smell - from pretty much everywhere in the dining room. They’re known for steaks, but if you’re not a red meat lover, there’s always a nightly fish special to tempt you. The house specialty is a smashed garlic rubbed steak that is as heavenly - and fragrant - as it sounds. It’s melt-in-your-mouth good - well worth the need for a mouthwash before you conclude your date for the evening.
