Did you know that Superman was dreamed up right here in the Buckeye State? Unless you’re from Cleveland, you likely didn’t know that the Buckeye State is where the famous TV and comic book hero Superman started. It’s a little-known piece of Ohio history that’s fun and fascinating.

One of the nation’s first and most beloved super heroes was thought up right here in Cleveland, Ohio. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created the comic book character while living in the city.

Few people know that Superman was actually first created as a villain during the 1930s, according to the Ohio History Connection.

Once Siegel and Shuster started working for DC-National Comics, (what is now DC Comics), the duo was able to publish the Superman storyline in Action Comics.

The pair of creators eventually signed over their rights to Superman to DC Comics in 1939.

Today, Superman remains an iconic hero for both Ohio and America.
