The modern era has made finding a job a lot different… and a lot more competitive. While it may have once been just as easy as walking in with a resume, a briefcase, and oodles of confidence, first impressions in the modern era come from resumes submitted online. While this may seem to make it harder to find a job, a recent number crunch by a job-hunting platform revealed that Cleveland is one of the best places in the United States to find a job. In fact, Greater Cleveland is in the top five, and we’d even argue that it’s also a great place to settle down and start a family. What do you think?

Glassdoor, a website coveted by job seekers, recently announced the top 25 metropolitan areas to find a job.

waferboard/Flickr Glassdoor launched in 2007, and it’s currently worth over a billion dollars. Each day, thousands of job seekers flood this website hoping to find a new opportunity… and they just might do so in the top 25 cities to find a job, a list that you can find here.

While Columbus and Cincinnati did rank on the list, the Cleveland area weighed in at number 5 out of 25 total areas.

Erik Drost/Flickr Cincinnati came in at number nine on the list, and Columbus was number 14. While these two places had different median salaries than Cleveland jobs, all three metropolitan areas had similar job satisfaction scores.

What was the methodology to come to this conclusion? The competition took into account the Glassdoor City Score, which includes hiring opportunity, cost of living and job satisfaction.

Mish Sukharev/Flickr Hiring opportunity, their website explains, is the ratio between available positions and population, and cost of living is a similarly determined ratio that compares median base salary to median home value.

While the list took into account the 50 most populated metropolitan areas, it can be argued that Cleveland is the best place to launch a career.

Erik Drost/Flickr Why? Well, our suburbs are an incredible place to put down roots and start a family. There’s so much to do in Greater Cleveland that you’ll never get bored! Plus, with the median home cost in Ohio being nearly six figures lower than the national average, our state offers a comfortable place for you to start building your fortune.

And if you’re wondering, the cities to beat Cleveland on the list were (from rankings one to four) Raleigh, NC, Pittsburgh, PA, Indianapolis, IN, and Memphis, TN.

Adikos/Flickr The ‘Hot Jobs’ listed in these areas include software engineer, professor, truck driver, and registered nurse. Cleveland’s top listed hot jobs are shift manager, mortgage loan officer, and human resources business partner.

With over 35,000 jobs listed in the Cleveland area and an opportunity to earn a median base salary of $49,719, it’s no wonder Cleveland gives hope to so many job seekers.

Jeff Futo/Flickr Who knows – you just may find your dream job here. Many national brands have been launched from this area and, if you’re lucky, you might find the same success.

So there you have it! Cleveland truly is one of the best places to find a job in the United States. Where did you end up finding your dream job?

Cleveland has much to offer, and we locals aren’t the only ones to think so. Cleveland has also been named one of the nation’s top travel destinations!
