There are lots of great burger joints in Mississippi, but not many have stood the (taste) test of time like Latham’s Hamburger Inn. Despite being located in a small town, the eatery has endured through the decades. And it’s not only a local favorite. Since opening it’s received countless accolades, including its most recent – being dubbed the state’s best hole-in-the-wall burger joint. Take a look:

At the end of last year, the website Cheapism named Latham’s Hamburger Inn in New Albany the best hole-in-the-wall burger joint in Mississippi.

Definitely worthy of the recognition, Latham’s has been doling out delicious burgers since the 1930s!

The eatery was originally located in a dining car across the street from its present location.

In the 1970s, Latham’s moved to its current spot, bringing with it the rail car’s stools and countertop, which still adorn the eatery to this day.

Though there have been several changes throughout the decades, one thing has remained the same – the recipe used to make Latham’s famous burgers.

A real treat for hamburger aficionados, Latham’s serves up slugburgers, which are burgers made by mixing beef with flour.

It’s not just the unique beef mixture that makes slugburgers standout. There’s also the cooking method used. Rather than being cooked on a griddle like traditional burgers, slugburgers are fried in a cast iron skillet.

The end result is a patty that’s crunchy on the outside and bursting with flavor on the inside.

And while the tasty burgers are definitely the restaurant’s best perk, the unbelievably low prices are a close second.
