Taking place every Memorial Day Weekend in Boulder City is the one and only Best Dam Barbecue Challenge. Now in its 16th year, we couldn’t be more excited to see, and taste, what these talented barbecue teams cook up.

This year, the event will take place on Friday, May 22nd from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event acts as the primary fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Boulder City, but it’s completely free to the public to attend.

Since its first event in 2005, this barbecue challenge has brought out thousands of guests to Boulder City to taste some of the “best dam” barbecue around. The two-day, fun-filled event has become a treasured tradition among many, and you may want to make it a tradition for you and yours as well!

The event takes place in Nevada’s Historic Bicentennial Park, just a 30-minute drive from Las Vegas and 15-minute drive from the Hoover Dam. Here you can experience the mouthwatering smells and sights of dozens of barbecue teams serving up some of the best smoked meats in the West.

Although there is plenty of entertainment and vendors to check out during the event, the barbecue challenge itself is the main highlight of the festival. Every year, up to 41 teams roll in their smokers and attempt to produce the best ribs, pork, brisket, and chicken imaginable. With $12,000 of cash prizes handed out every year, the competition is always fierce!

Another beloved feature of the event is the annual Best Dam Rib-Eating Contest. This year, two special guests will try to consume a half rack of ribs as fast as humanly possible, but only one will come out on top. Be sure to cheer them on and see for yourself who will be declared the next champion.
