There are some places in Maine where you have to work for the views…hikes up to mountain summits, rocky ocean views only seen by boat, and all the other secret little spots that exist here. But, what is there for folks who aren’t looking for the next great adventure? Plenty, starting with this beautiful view that doesn’t even require one step of hiking!
If you love the sweeping views of Maine, you’re going to want to plan a visit to the Height of Land. It’s located near Rangeley.

While there are no real “specific” directions to reach it, you’ll know you’re close as you head North leading to Rangeley. Look towards the west and you’ll spot the area to pull off.

On a busy, clear day you’re likely to find the area full of cars. But arrive early or later in the day and you might have it to yourself. There’s plenty of parking, however if you can’t find parking just continue along. Don’t risk parking at the side of the road.

The term “Height of Land” refers to the place where two watersheds meet. So, you might find other places with the same name across the globe! Look out for the educational placards that have tons of other information for curious minds.
