Getting outside in Maine is one of our favorite ways to appreciate being here. Whether it’s simply going for a walk in the neighborhood, exploring the shops in nearby cities and towns or actually heading out into the woods, a dose of fresh air will always make you feel better. This easy trail is located near the New Hampshire border and offers a nice way to enjoy the trees.
The Kezar River Trail is a part of the 114-acre Kezar River Preserve, which is near Lovell.

The trail is adjacent to Mill Pond, which offers lots of great views along the route.

The route itself is about a mile loop, making it easy to navigate.

But just in case you do get disoriented, the trail markers along the way have all been created by local students. This adds a lovely community vibe to this area. Just another thing we love about Maine!

The trail is fairly easy, but there’s one area that leads hikers into and out of a ravine.

This is one of five similar ravines that was formed by “headwall erosion." Because this is fairly uncommon on the east coast, it’ll be interesting to see along the way!

The area offers a chance to see waterfowl, beaver and even otters who visit the shores.

Hikers will also have a chance to see deer, moose, fox, black bear, owls, hawks, wood peckers and songbirds.

The views are beautiful, the area is accessible and we think this area offers a great way to ease into hiking. It’s great for beginners, wonderful for kids and fun all-around.
