Springtime in North Carolina arrived liked a rabid lion – in many ways. But if there’s one place where the world has carried on as if nothing has changed, it’s deep in the Linville Gorge, where thousands upon thousands of daffodils bloom each year, creating a bright yellow sea of color.

The vivid garden is a living testament to the family that long, long ago built a homestead in the bottom of the Gorge in the area now known as Daffodil Flats.

Daffodil Flats is rooted deep within the rugged terrain of the 12-mile Linville Gorge — and it’s no easy feat to hike the six-mile round trip to get there.

Linville Gorge is known as the Grand Canyon of North Carolina. With overlooks, trails, and waterfalls (Linville Falls is found in the Gorge), there are endless ways to enjoy the pure beauty found in the Gorge.
