The Bluegrass State does, indeed, have mountains and they are stunning all year long, but especially vibrant in the spring. The trees are growing their canopies and flowers are blooming along the winding roads that take you through the hills and mountains scattered across the eastern half of our state. If you live in a city or even a small town, there are likely times when you just need some open space and vast scenery.

If you live near the mountains of Kentucky, like Cumberland Gap shown above, you can even choose to escape to the mountains.
A drive around Pine Mountain is also a wonderful way to spend a day, or longer if possible, and spring is especially beautiful.

While driving around, if you need to stretch your legs, consider a stop at a trailhead within the park.

But the climb is worth it to see the tallest waterfall in this area of Kentucky.

This mountainous area within and around the park is filled with scenic overviews that can be seen from both foot and within your car.
