Washington is a long, long way from New Orleans. And while you can certainly find plenty of restaurants that serve authentic Cajun cuisine, it isn’t easy to find a place that sells those classic Southern spices. But at Altha’s Louisiana Cajun Seasoning & Spices shop, you’ll have a fantastic variety as well as some rather exotic options. Come see why this place sold out of nearly everything they had the first weekend they were open.

Altha’s Louisiana Cajun Seasoning & Spices is located in Kent.

Kent, Washington / Google It’s owned and operated by Reginald Robinson, who grew up in New Orleans before moving to Washington over 30 years ago.

The main purpose of Altha’s is to sell the spices and food that Louisiana is so well-known for.

Anthony Frank / Google Altha’s originally opened in 2016 in a very small space. It was so crowded that the shop moved to a bigger building in Kent the following year.

The shop sells items straight out of Louisiana, like dried beans, spice mixes, frozen catfish, condiments, and coffee…

… but you’ll also find some rather exotic items inside (at least, for us) like frog legs and alligator.

Altha’s / Facebook Robinson gets two or three truckloads of Southern goodness delivered. The store sells around 1,000 pounds of catfish per week.

If you’d rather leave the cooking to someone else, you’re welcome to enjoy some tasty Southern food from the deli.

Anthony Frank / Google Many of the menu items are from recipes Robinson learned from his own mother.

You can get your food to-go or have a seat in the small dining area and enjoy it there.

Altha’s / Facebook Whether you’re craving red beans and rice or chicken and waffles, you’ll find it here.

Altha’s Louisiana Cajun Seasoning & Spices is open daily, although hours vary.

Anthony Frank / Google They open at 8:30 a.m. most mornings for shoppers eager to get their provisions and serve Cajun cuisine until 8 p.m. (5 p.m. on Sundays).

Altha’s is a special place, and we highly recommend visiting. But if you’re not planning to pay Kent a visit anytime soon, you can order quite a bit from the website.
