Rhode Island animal lovers, rejoice. For those who haven’t heard, we’ve got a wonderful animal sanctuary right here in the Ocean State, and it’s full of farm animals and wildlife alike who, for one reason or another, need a second chance at life. There are many ways you can support the efforts of West Place Animal Sanctuary, our favorite of which is to pay them a visit.
The West Place Animal Sanctuary is located in Tiverton, where it has been since its 2007 opening.
West Place Animal Sanctuary / Facebook The sanctuary was founded by Wendy Taylor, the Executive Director. Wendy, a devout animal lover, launched the organization a few years after suffering a devastating loss in which her pets were killed in a house fire, including her beloved goat, Mo.
The purpose of West Place is to provide housing, food and medical care for injured and orphaned wildlife and farm animals.
West Place Animal Sanctuary / Facebook Since its opening, the organization has helped hundreds of wildlife and dozens of farm animals each year.
The property sits on eight historic farm acres, which is the perfect place for these critters.

There are many ways to support this wonderful organization, from making cash donations to volunteering or attending the fundraising events…

…but, if you’re so inclined, the sanctuary does offer private tours.
West Place Animal Sanctuary / Facebook The tours must be pre-arranged — the sanctuary is not open to the public daily, so please do not just drop in. Private tours have a 10 person minimum and cost $12 per adult and $10 per child 12 and under.
The tours are excellent for school groups, especially since each one is custom-tailored to the group’s needs.
