If your itching to spend some time away from home, we’ve got the perfect spot. Luckily, you won’t have to travel very far, it’s just a quick trip across the Causeway but you’ll feel like you’re in a completely different world when you stay at Fontainebleau State Park, one of the most beautiful state parks near New Orleans.

On the other side of Lake Pontchartrain lies a beautiful 2,800 state park filled with ancient oaks, luscious green space, beaches, and so much more.

Nestled along the lake, there are several hiking and nature trails that will take you throughout the park.

Be sure to check out the old sugar mill while you’re there. The park was once home to a sugar plantation and brickyard that was built in 1829. Although it’s no longer in operation, you can see the ruins and learn about the history of the original owners, Bernard de Marigny.

Of course, one of the main attractions to the park are the waterfront cabins.
