In the past, we told you about Mississippi’s Petrified Forest, which is home to some pretty old trees – but it’s not the only place in the state you’ll find ancient trees. There’s also Sky Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA). An incredible natural wonder, the WMA has some of the oldest bald cypress trees on earth. But age isn’t the only impressive thing about the trees. Take a look:
Located in the small town of Belzoni, Sky Lake WMA is an incredible natural wonder. The 3,500-acre area is home to some of the oldest – and biggest – bald cypress trees on Earth.

Great care has been taken to preserve the area, so a visit to Sky Lake provides a glimpse of what native Mississippi was like more than 1,000 years ago.

A boardwalk makes it easy to navigate the ancient forest. And since the cypress creates somewhat of a canopy, the temperature on the boardwalk is noticeably lower, making for a comfortable trek.

As you venture down the boardwalk you’ll be afforded incredible close-up views of the ancient giants.

At over 1,000 years in age, the trees have been fittingly dubbed “giant living dinosaurs of the Delta.”

In addition to great views, you’ll also find plenty of signage, providing information about the trees and surrounding area.

Be sure to have your camera handy because you’ll definitely want to snap some pictures of the enormous trees.

In addition to the boardwalk trail, the grounds include additional signage and displays worth checking out.
