Salem is a small town about five miles from the Illinois state line that’s home to one of the most loved spots in all the Midwest. Located not far from the Fox River, it makes sense that there would be a building here dating back to the 1880s that served as a hotel for travelers. It no longer offers rooms for the night, but this gorgeous old building is now home to Siebert’s Pub. There are tons of beautiful old touches left from the building’s previous life, but those are just a bonus when you visit Siebert’s Pub in Wisconsin. You’re really there for the food.

You don’t imagine you’ll find pub food this good in a town this small, but those who’ve discovered Siebert’s come back again and again. It’s clear when you’re there that much of the clientele are regulars - locals who know a good thing in their midst when they taste it.

The ubiquitous Wisconsin Friday Fish fry is quite good here and you’ll find plenty of people that agree. The cod is crispy and flaky and the servings are huge.

What people say keeps them coming back is the details. From overflowing mounds of bubbling cheese on the French Onion soup to the various chip, fry and mashed potato options, this is not your regular bar food. It’s certainly no dive bar.

The Reuben is so famous it draws folks from across the state line. Those Southern neighbors can’t get over the portion sizes and reasonable prices, as well as the killer tap list.

The food options are pretty varied here. They all include wonderful touches, like the tasty cheese on the sandwiches or the poppy seed dressing on the wraps. This may be a pub, but the menu is thoughtful and delicious - no one mailed it in here. The choices are all deliberate and delicious.

The Monkey Fries might be the most popular and interesting thing on the menu. This brick is a mass of cheesy delicious goodness. Fries and cheese and bacon are served with a really interesting stout sauce. It’s perfectly Wisconsin and oh-so amazing.

If you’re looking for a quirky little out of the way spot with tons of locals, great food, a heck of a beer list and a friendly staff, Siebert’s is waiting for you to visit.

You won’t go hungry and you’ll probably have a hard time deciding which of the delicious menu items to choose, but whatever you end up with, you won’t regret it. The food here is so good, the service is even better and you’ll be able to understand why folks on multiple different platforms call this some of the very best food in the entire Midwest.
