The town of Sharonville has around 14,000 residents, and it’s just a 20-minute drive from Cincinnati. Though many people commute into the city from here, it’s got its own hometown vibe.

One of the very best things about Sharonville is Sharon Woods, a 730-acre oasis that will make you feel as though you’re much farther from the city than you really are.

The Sharon Woods Gorge runs right through the park, and you’ll find a short nature trail that takes you right through it. You’ll be surrounded by maple, oak and walnut trees here, and you’ll stroll past two waterfalls.

Take the 2.6-mile loop trail around Sharon Lake for a quiet, peaceful moment in the early morning hours.

The Heritage Village Museum is a quaint little living history museum that will show you what life was like here back in the 1800s.

The village includes a schoolhouse, train station, general store, barn, and several homes. You’ll find docents in period costume ready to give you guided tours, and you can take a self-guided tour around the village, too.

You’ll definitely want to set aside time to visit Trammel Fossil Park.

This little 10-acre park is a fascinating place where you can actually dig for fossils. Some of the fossils here are more than 450 million years old, and when you find them, you can take them home.
