Kaaterskill Falls, nestled in Kaaterskill Wild Forest, cascades down two tiers for a total drop of 260 feet, making it one of New York’s must-visit natural wonders.

You can see the magnificent waterfall from several points. If you park in the Laurel-House Road parking lot, you’ll have a short .3-mile stroll that leads to a viewing platform.

For a short half-mile hike, park at the Scott Road parking lot. From there, you’ll meander along a bridge that leads to sensational views of the falls.

However, if you’re up for a longer hike, follow the 2.6-mile Kaaterskill Falls Trail. Although it’s rated moderate, the trail can get incredibly busy.

Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes or hiking boots as you’ll deal with some rocky terrain and stairs. If you’re visiting after a rainfall, expect muddy conditions.

On the other hand, if you’re visiting and it hasn’t rained in a while, don’t expect the falls to be at their most spectacular.
