Previously we spoke about how you can visit the actual home of Harriet Tubman out in Auburn, but today we’re going to take you to a different area of New York that has something a bit more delicious to offer our residents. See for yourself!
Bringing you into Fulton County where you’re officially in the Adirondack-Leatherstocking region of New York, one of the oldest operating restaurants is tucked away right along the roadside.
While the official address that you’ll see on your GPS will say Fort Plain, you’ll find yourself in the heart of Ephratah when you’re here visiting this historic dining establishment.
Waiting for you at a small-town intersection, Saltman’s restaurant opened up back in the early 1800s as a popular place for stage-coach travelersto stop - quickly becoming the heart of Ephratah.
While Saltman’s hotel transformed from a place to stay to a place to dine more than a 100-years after opening, not too much has changed about this place aesthetically!

Inside the historic eatery, you’ll find a Victorian-style parlor that will greet you, tin ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors, a player piano, and tons of vintage photos of Saltman’s Hotel and other local spots that you’ll recognize.

Saltman’s Hotel has everything from Grilled Lamb Chops and Pork Chops, Baked Salmon, Breaded Veal Cutlet, Charbroiled Sirloin Steak, Saltman’s Famous Fried Chicken, Grilled Ham Steak, Fried Haddock - along with coleslaw, freshly-baked bread, corn fritters drenched in maple sugar syrup, and your choosing of things like fruit cups, homemade soups, tomato juice, seafood pasta, creamed potatoes, onion casserole, or their vegetable that come with all four-course dinners!
