Way off the beaten path in the Kettle Moraine State Forest sits Rushing Waters Fisheries, a remote seafood restaurant in Wisconsin. These folks have been farming trout in spring-fed waters since the 1940s. They sit on 80 acres with 56 ponds and those deep springs help keep the ponds cool – ideal for growing trout. The smokehouse located right on site and the restaurant serving the very freshest of fish make Rushing Waters a spectacular place to visit year round. Drive out along the Kettle Moraine scenic drive. No matter the season, there’s something to see and the beauty is astounding.
Rushing Waters is a bit of a one-stop-shop tucked in the Kettle Moraine State Forest in the southern part of the state.
Facebook/RushingWatersFishery What started as a fishery and trout farm has grown into not one but two restaurants. It’s a meandering drive along a state scenic route to get there, but totally worth the time.
The stunning restaurant on site is full of windows to view the surrounding forest and wildlife.

Yelp
From on-site smoked meats to fresh fish for the grill, you cannot beat the prices and you’ll be a happy camper the rest of the week.
Facebook/RushingWatersFishery (Every time we’ve had a meal here, I’ve gone home with enough fish to make dinner for the next week and we’ve never been disappointed.)
Fishing in the ponds here is a great way to get introduced to the sport.
Facebook/RushingWatersFishery There is no fee or license required to set out. The caught fish fee includes the cost of a rod, cleaning and icing. It’s only a small fee for live catch weight, or you can take it home and clean it yourself.
For a truly unique experience, plan to come for a catch-and-eat lunch.
Yelp/Carrie G On select days, you can ask the Farm Store Clerk to have your fish sent to the Chef and enjoy the traditional Shore Lunch at The Trout House. The lunch is only a small fee plus the price of your catch. You can have your trout either battered and fried or pan seared, and it’s served with seasonal vegetables, potato pancakes and apple sauce, and freshly baked rye bread.
But if carry-out or catch-and-eat isn’t exactly your cup of tea, you can always just show up for one of the lovely meals made right here on site.
Yelp/Kelly Z Rushing Waters opened a second restaurant location in Delvan, but Palmyra is the original.
From the house-made trout spread to smoked salmon plates, dinner here is a seafood-lover’s dream.
Yelp/Melissa S You’ll love the steamed mussels and whole prepared fish, as well. Of course there are options on the menu for carnivores too, but the fish is exquisitely prepared and the menu is seasonal and well thought out. A meal here is an experience.
Rushing Waters is located at N301 Co Rd H, Palmyra, WI 53156. They are open year-round for both fishing and dining at the restaurant. The retail store where you can grab-and-go all types of fish and seafood, plus local beers and accompaniments is also a must-stop. To learn more about Rushing Waters, visit their website here.
