State parks are so crucial to the preservation of our beautiful state of Texas because they ensure that the land can’t be tampered with for economic purposes. That’s why the addition of Palo Pinto Mountains State Park near Strawn is so exciting – one more area of our great state protected from infringement. The land here is so lush and diverse, and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to be inducted into our list of state parks. You’re going to love visiting the newest state park in Texas.

Consisting of nearly 4,000 acres of land in the West Cross Timbers Ecoregion, this state park is in an extremely topographically diverse area. It’s also home to an incredible variety of plants and wildlife.

The property was purchased in 2011 and is currently still undeveloped. It is expected to open to the public at a later date, but the most important thing is that the land is now officially protected.

Facebook/PaloPintoMtns Once it’s open to the public, this gorgeous area will be home to some of the most breathtaking scenic overlooks in Texas.

Although the park itself isn’t accessible yet, the pristine Tucker Lake is available and completely free for fishing and water recreation.

Several different ecosystems converge in this area, and it’s truly a beautiful sight. Bluebonnets and cacti abound, and the terrain shifts from prairies to towering hills with spectacular scenic overlooks.
