The Arbuckle Mountains are the oldest known formations in the country between the Appalachian and the Rocky Mountains. This ancient mountain range is home to some of the most beautiful topography in the state – Turner Falls Park, the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, and Lake of the Arbuckles. Some say the granite rocks in the mountains date back over 1.4 billion years ago, which means there’s quite a bit of history hidden deep in these mountains. The Arbuckle mountain range is located in south-central Oklahoma and is the oldest known formation in the U.S. between the Appalachian and the Rocky Mountains. The range reaches 1,412 feet above sea level and is home to the popular Turner Falls Park and Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

The most notable attraction in the area is Turner Falls Park - home of the tallest waterfall in the state standing at 77 ft. tall. The waterfall beautifully falls from the rocks of the Arbuckle Mountains into a natural pool below.

Explorers will want to check out the hidden caves - some of which are marked and easily accessible, however, there are a few “secret” caves that exist that are waiting to be explored in some of the oldest mountains on earth.

Situated at the foothills of the Arbuckle Mountains is Chickasaw National Recreation Area - full of natural mineral springs that attract visitors from all over the country. The most popular swimming hole in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area is the Little Niagra waterfall area on Travertine Creek.
