The history in New Hampshire is plentiful. Founded in 1776, there’s been a lot of time for stories to build and be told over and over again. And that doesn’t even include those that come from way before people recognized the Granite State as a state! Family stories are great, but what we really love to hear are the ghostly tales of things that happened before us. This is one of our favorites!
If you’re a Dartmouth student you surely know about the Hanover Inn located in Hanover. But if you don’t and you scare easily, you might want to think twice before visiting.

First, the inn is absolutely lovely. From the top to the bottom, every detail has been looked after. But it’s what happened nearby at Dartmouth College a long time ago that stick in the minds of many people.

You see, way back in 1934 a young group of college kids were enjoying a night together in the Alpha Theta fraternity house. They didn’t know that these hours would be their last.

Late in the night, while sleeping in the attic, there was a carbon monoxide accident. All 9 students died, both men and women. The building was demolished and a new one built in its place. Many students and even some local hotel guests today report running into the ghosts of those that died that night.
