Pittsburgh certainly boasts sensational views of its skyline, especially from Mount Washington. Those stellar views might lead you to believe that the highest point in Pittsburgh sits somewhere on top of the mountain. That, however, couldn’t be further from the truth. You’ll have to drive a few miles if you want to reach the city’s highest point.

Just about six miles from Mount Washington, Brashear Reservoir in Observatory Hill has earned the title of the highest point in Pittsburgh.

It sits at 1,370 feet. Don’t expect those spectacular, sweeping city views you can drink in from Mount Washington. Rather, the views from Brashear Reservoir in Observatory Hill are similar to most neighborhoods with plenty of lush green trees and homes.

View the observatory up close, watch a short film, and embark on a walking tour. If you’re lucky and visit on a clear evening, you’ll be able to view the nighttime sky from one of the telescopes.

You might also want to follow your visit to Brashear Reservoir with some time in Riverview Park itself. The park offers a series of hiking trails, a playground, and picnic tables.
