Virginia’s outdoor attractions are seemingly endless. From exploring the depths of caves to hiking past waterfalls and even exploring the Grand Canyon of the South, it would be virtually impossible to run out of exciting things to do outside. Today, we’d like to highlight a lesser-known trail that showcases the landscape in the most unforgettable way. The trail meanders past boulders and beautiful mountain laurel as it makes its way to a gorgeous overlook. Whenever you’re able to enjoy this trail, you’ll be glad you did.

Located near Vesuvius, Virginia, the Mount Pleasant Trail is a 6.2-mile loop that will take you on a scenic adventure you won’t soon forget.

The trail is well-marked and well-maintained, but you’ll still want to wear sturdy hiking shoes as the terrain can get rocky in some places.

Most hikers prefer to take the counter-clockwise route, although you can’t go wrong either way. Along the trail, you’ll experience an impressive array of features, like mountain laurel and fragrant blooms, depending on the time of year.

You’ll notice the forest floor to be uncharacteristically clear, and this is due to a forest fire that burned 11,000 acres.

Perhaps one of the most unique trail features is the presence of massive boulders. Boulders are typically the result of wind and water on exposed blocks of granite.
