Who’s up for an epic hike near Pittsburgh? Whether you’re on the lookout for a short but pretty hike or you want to really explore the Western Pennsylvania landscape, you’ll find what you’re looking for on this beautiful trail that boasts countless bridges and tunnels and an abundance of natural beauty. It’s definitely one of those hikes that deserves a spot on your bucket list.
The Montour Trail spans more than 60 miles, beginning in Corapolis, and is billed as “The Nation’s Longest Suburban Rail Trail.”

Whether you hike all or part of the trail, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out for some of the biggest highlights: the bridges, the tunnels, and the viaduct.

At 1,000 feet long, the McDonald Viaduct earns distinction as the longest bridge on the Montour Trail. It also boasts some pretty spectacular views.

Don’t forget to bring a flashlight with you (or make sure you download a flashlight app on your smartphone). Those tunnels you can explore are often dark and damp (especially after a rainfall).
