If there’s one thing we Mississippians know, it’s catfish. And if you want the best catfish, you have to go where the locals go, which is usually an unassuming eatery in a small town…cue Charlie’s Catfish House. The eatery’s perfectly prepped whole catfish, hushpuppies, and coleslaw consistently draw in hoards of hungry diners. But don’t let a crowd discourage you from seeking out this small town gem – the fish is said to be some of the best in the state. Take a look:
A classic southern fish house, Charlie’s Catfish House is located along a stretch of highway in a small town. More specifically, you’ll find it in Ellisville, where it’s been since opening in 1976.

Like most other fish houses, Charlie’s is a no-frills kind of place. The décor takes a backseat to the fare, which has proven to be a wise decision.

And while the menu may be small, the catfish are BIG – and that’s because Charlie’s serves whole catfish. That’s right; you won’t find filets at Charlie’s.
