There’s a huge show coming to Minnesota, and it’s free for everyone! All you have to do is go outside and look up, and you’ll see one of the greatest spectacles on Earth – as long as the skies are dark enough. The Lyrid meteor shower is one of the most well known and awe-inspiring astronomical events of the year, and it’s just about ready to begin. This spring, plan a night to look up and take in the thrilling show that nature has in store for us. Read on to learn all that you need to know about the Lyrid meteor shower this year.
This year, the Lyrid meteor shower will occur from April 16 to April 30, 2020. The meteors are most easily visible from the Northern Hemisphere, including Minnesota.

To catch the shower, you’ll have to be somewhere with as little light pollution as possible. Your luck may be better if you head into a more rural area of Minnesota.

The time is also important. Head out an hour or two before dawn to catch the best views.

For the best chance of seeing the meteors, go out on the night of April 21-22. The moon will be just 1% full, making the sky nice and dark.
