With relatively flat terrain, Mississippi isn’t exactly known for its hiking. However, there are a few amazing trails in the state – and the Columbus Riverwalk is one of them. Easily accessible, the riverside trail begins in downtown Columbus. From there, it winds along the riverfront, resulting in a stroll that’s nothing short of picturesque. Take a look:
A city in Lowndes County, Columbus is synonymous with grand antebellum mansions. In fact, its collection of historic homes is the 2nd most extensive in the state. (Natchez is first.)

Several years ago, Lowndes County Master Gardeners added a butterfly garden to the riverwalk’s route. Most active in the summer, the majestic garden can be easily accessed via a path right off the riverwalk.
