If you’re on Oahu and you feel like looking at one of the prettiest lighthouses on the island, then head on over to the Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Lookout Trail for a majestic scene you can’t find anywhere else. With 360 degrees of panoramic views that will knock your socks off, this trail is quick and easy with a huge payoff.
Oahu has any number of stunning hiking trails to explore.
Tyler Way / AllTrails While some cut through the lush forest on the island, others bring you seaside to see towering mountains and thundering waves.
The Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Lookout Trail offers the latter; stunning ocean scenery and views that the windward coast is famous for.
Tyler Way / AllTrails It’s a short drive from Honolulu, and the perfect morning trip. When you hike out to this beautiful lighthouse, you’ll get a good workout as well as a glimpse of the now shuttered lighthouse.
The trail itself is a popular trail due to the amazing views and relative ease of hiking.
Linda Edwards / AllTrails It’s approximately 2.5 miles long, out and back. The trail is well maintained with plenty of markers. It’s paved, so it’s wheelchair and stroller friendly.
You’ll only climb about 505 feet total of elevation gain.
Tyler Way / AllTrails This makes it a great hike for people of all skill levels. From November through May keep a sharp eye out for migrating humpback whales, and look for the many species of birds you can find in the area.
Make sure you stay up to date with access and closure information from the Division of State Parks website.
Emily Minton / AllTrails Hikers should stay 20 feet away from each other, and groups of hikers can’t exceed two people unless they’re all from a single household. All parks are currently day use only, which is perfect for this gorgeous trail!
You may find the parking lot closed when you head out to hike this trail.
Laura Simons/Alltrails If you’re lucky, you will find some parking spots on the side of the road. Head out early to avoid large groups of people, and have the whole place to yourself!
If you find yourself with any free time this weekend, you have to go check out this trail.
Ben Gray / AllTrails Bring the whole family to enjoy this lovely trail with beautiful vistas. This easy, rewarding trek deserves a spot at the top of your summer hiking list!
