If you’ve ever wanted to see miles of Kansas grasslands from a Santa Fe Trail landmark, then Point of Rocks is the perfect place for you. Staring out into unfiltered, unhindered scenery is a magical experience. Plus, we just love our local history and the Santa Fe Trail.
Way down in the southwest corner of Kansas, there’s a section that rises up above everything else, something that instantly makes you want to climb. This magical place is called Point of Rocks, and is both a historical marker and a beautiful spot in Kansas nature.

Taking the trail up to the top, you start to feel just how many people have hone over this path ahead of you. Travel on this section of the Santa Fe Trail started in 1822 and ended only 50 years later, when a railroad took over traffic in the area.

At the highest point, you can see for miles around, as you’re standing on one of the highest points in Kansas. It really gives you a great view over the Cimarron National Grasslands.

The whole trail includes four segments, a spring, and the commemorative marker we saw earlier. The Santa Fe Trail is always an important part of our history, and we also love to view Kansas nature that is mostly undisturbed.

Make sure to steer clear of any bison you may see in the area! Also, if you decide to visit, we think you should check out Elkhart for a meal and quick skip around town.
