We Texans are humble enough to realize that you can’t judge a restaurant by its exterior. In fact, we usually prefer dining at places that are a little rough around the edges because that means more attention can be paid to the food. Loco Coyote is no exception, and it’s the hidden gem you never knew you needed to try until now. The food from this unassuming BBQ restaurant in Texas will knock your socks off. Take a look:

The exterior resembles a dilapidated shack, which may not be too far from the truth considering this place has been around for nearly 50 years.

Google/Paul Noll With smoke-stained walls, a porch that’s definitely seen better days, and random signage plastered all over the walls, Loco Coyote is the epitome of “rustic” - luckily, that’s exactly how we like our restaurants here in Texas.

Upon entrance, you’ll find the theme is quite similar to how things look outside.

Google/Sean Lynes Sawdust floors, picnic tables, and quirky lights strung up everywhere make it immediately apparent that the atmosphere is not intended to impress. It’s all about the food, and you’ll understand why after one bite.

Barbecue is the specialty, but fish, burgers, poboys, steak, and tacos are also on the menu.

Google/Kevin Manley Ribs, sliced beef, sausage, pulled pork, and smoked turkey are all slow-cooked and seasoned to perfection, no sauce needed or provided. Folks travel from all over the state to try the food and say it was worth every mile.

Heed this warning: your eyes will be bigger than your stomach.

Google/Tasha K Bowens Any ability to make a rational decision will probably disappear as soon as you open the menu and start salivating, but at least we tried. This monstrosity is the Jack Daniels BBQ Burger, piled high with onion rings, fried pickles, cheese, and sauce. Share with a friend or box up the leftovers because ain’t no way you’re finishing this all by yourself.

If you have rambunctious kiddos or even pets, the enormous outdoor area will be a godsend.

Google/Tina Harris Enjoy live country music on Saturdays from 6-9 p.m. while you chow down and enjoy the company of old friends and new acquaintances alike. We couldn’t imagine a better way to unwind. It’s some of the best outdoor dining in Texas!

You’ll find the restaurant at 1795 CR 1004, Glen Rose, TX 76043.

Google/Tina Harris It’s about 8 miles West of town on Highway 67, and there’s a large billboard on the road that can’t be missed. To learn more, visit their website here.

Texas BBQ is all about the brisket. Some places drizzle a bit of sauce on top, but others consider that a crime. You’ll find some tasty pork and beef ribs in the state as well.
