Any weekend is the right weekend to visit the big cats at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.
Google/Arkansas Tourism About 100 animals make their home on the 459-acre refuge, including lions, tigers, and even some bears. Turpentine cares for big cats (and others) that have been abused or abandoned typically as “pets.” A trip to Eureka Springs should also include a stop to see the big kitties!
However, there’s a colorful event coming up that shouldn’t be missed.
Facebook/30th Annual Kite Festival Every year Turpentine hosts the Kite Festival alongside KaleidoKites of Eureka Springs. This day-long festival will be on March 28th from 10 AM to 4 PM. The event is free but be prepared to pay normal admission if you want to see Turpentine’s animals.
Kites of every shape and size will take flight at this fest.
Facebook/Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce You can bring your own kite to the festival or learn how to make one with the experts of KaleidoKites. This kid-friendly event is pet-friendly as well so the entire family can enjoy the day! Just be sure any four-legged friends have a leash.
It’ll be hard to look away from the rainbow of flying kites but plan on visiting the vendors as well.
Facebook/Tulsa Wind Riders In addition to the kites the festival also has live performances from DJ Testube and close-up magician Carlos David, tons of food, and a hodgepodge of different vendors. KaleidoKites will also be holding a raffle for a 6-ft. kite so be sure to sign up!
