If you’ve lived in Kentucky your entire life, hopefully you know that there is a lot to do here in the Bluegrass State. There really is no excuse to become bored in a state like ours, especially if you enjoy spending time outdoors. But in an age when most people communicate through a device rather than in person and more and more of us are reading about these exciting things to do, rather than actually doing them, inactivity has become commonplace. In fact, in a recent report from the CDC, Kentucky was named one of the least active states in the country. We happen to think there’s no reason for this to be true, so it’s time to get moving, Kentucky!
In this study by the CDC, inactivity is defined as “self-report of engaging in no leisure-time physical activity during the past month.”
cdc.gov And if you take a look at this map, Kentuckians reported that 30% or more of adults in our state are inactive. That means 3/10 adults in Kentucky likely didn’t do anything active (running, walking, gardening, golfing, etc.) in an entire month.
It’s easy to see how this could happen when it is very tempting to hang out on the couch and binge watch your favorite show all day.
