There are quite a few places to ski and snowboard in Vermont: Stowe Mountain, Smuggler’s Notch, Killington, Sugarbush, Mad River Glenn, Okemo Mountain, Mount Snow, and some smaller resorts as well. This is all to say that mountain resorts in Vermont are a competitive venture. One resort I left off that list is Jay Peak Resort, which by no means is a small or insufficient resort. To the contrary, Jay Peak is one of the most premier places in Vermont to enjoy East Coast skiing and riding. And although Jay Peak is situated way up north in the middle of nowhere, between the towns of Montgomery and Jay, the resort at Jay Peak attracts skiers and snowboarders from all over, for good reason, too. The terrain and conditions at Jay Peak are arguably the best in the East.
Having opened in 1957, Jay Peak Resort has been expanding its growing and adaptive resort ever since. Located just four miles south of the Canadian border, Jay Peak is situated in a powder-loving area of the state. The average annual natural snowfall is a staggering 359 inches.
