Hit The Trail To A Swimming Hole And A Waterfall In South Carolina

But that’s not the only trail in the Palmetto State that leads to a cool swimming hole and waterfall. Take a peek at Opossum Creek Falls Trail and prepare to be wowed – again – by one of the most hidden and best hiking trails in South Carolina.

Follow a path through the woods to ultimately wind up at the base of the meandering Opossum Creek Falls, a 50-foot tall cascading waterfall that ripples though the landscape.

The trail is a total of 4.4 miles and is a mixture of woodsy paths that open into creekside views once the trail reaches the Chattooga River.

Along the river is a quaint little sandy beach sometimes enjoyed as a swimming hole.

Although the Chattooga River is known for its Class IV rapids, this section of the river couldn’t be any different.

Enjoy some down time on the golden beach and then hit the trail for another 0.3 mile to see Opossum Creek Falls.

When you reach the river, you’ll want to make a left onto the Opossum Creek Falls Trail and follow it to the creek.

At 2.1 miles into the forest, Opossum Creek Falls is definitely worth the few hours you’ll spend on the trail. Enjoy it to the fullest.
