We love hiking, and we also love waterfalls and water in general. Luckily, this trail in Kansas has all of those things packaged in a beautiful setting. We can’t get enough of Kansas nature, and the more is always the merrier. Hiking at Santa Fe Lake is a treat you should definitely try and give yourself. Grab that bucket list!

Welcome to Santa Fe Lake’s North Trail, a beautiful section of Kansas just outside Wichita and Augusta. It’s a perfect area for fishing, lakeside fun, camping, and of course hiking.

The loop trail will run you about 4.4 miles, and is rated as a pretty easy hike. Other than rocky areas, you’ll be hiking in and around trees and near the lakeside.

Of course, our favorite part is the waterfall! We love to visit a few days after a decent rain to hear the water flowing and dip our toes in. It also makes for some stunning photos, we think.

Relaxing at peace with nature is a big draw to this little trail. It’s usually well kept, and not too muddy unless the rain has been thick recently. Of course, if you visit in late summer, the day’s heat often dries out the mud.

With trees that line the path in some areas, it’s almost magical how the trail feels. If you like feeling like you’re in your own little world of nature, here’s a great spot to do it.

The lake is a great place to hang out, even after your hike. It’s refreshing to stick your feet in the water, enjoy the reflection of the sunset, or have a nice snack and just listen to nature around you.

The trail is open from sunup to sundown, but there is a small daily parking fee of $8 for use of the whole area. Dogs are allowed on leashes, and mountain bikes can run the trail as well!
