When you head off on a hiking trail in Oregon, you’re sure to see a wealth of beauty. Whether you’re making your way out onto a cape overlooking the Pacific, through a forest full of waterfalls, or along switchbacks to a mountain peak, the fresh air, flora, and fauna will definitely make an impression.

Tucked away in the Siuslaw National Forest, Marys Peak stands at 4,097 feet. It’s the highest point on Oregon’s Coast Range, and it’s well worth your effort. Pack a picnic and head to the trailhead!

The Marys Peak Area is one of the most scenic spots in the Oregon Coast Range, and a network of trails helps you explore the area.

U.S. Forest Service To reach the peak, you have several choices. Most hikers start at Conners Camp, but you can also continue along the Marys Peak Road to the day use area. For a much longer adventure, start at the Woods Creek Trailhead. The three lowest-elevation trails (East Ridge Trail, North Ridge Trail, and Tie Trail) are all open to bicycles, so be prepared to share the trail.

From Conners Camp, you’ll take the East Ridge Trail, which makes its way through the quiet, peaceful forest.

The narrow path cuts right through groves of tall trees. The sunlight filtering through the trees and the sweet songs of birds make this a very enjoyable journey.

Watch for the sign to the Summit Loop Trail, or extend your hike by circling around on the Tie Trail before connecting to Summit Trail.

This area is designated as a Scenic Botanical Special Interest Area, and for good reason. The brilliant blooms of wildflowers are occasional companions along the trail…

…and an explosion of colors awaits in the meadows surrounding the peak. Make sure to leave the flowers where they bloom so that others may enjoy them, too.

The Forest Service completed a restoration project a few years ago that restored the meadows and cut back new growth to allow for the expansive views. You’ll see noble firs surrounding these meadows - they’re rare in this part of the state.

The summit of the peak sits at 4,097 feet. This hike is considered moderately difficult, but it’s well worth your effort, because…

…the views are absolutely stunning. From the top, you’ll see many of the peaks of the Cascade Range, as well as the Pacific Ocean, far off into the distance.

At the top, a picnic table awaits! Unpack your lunch and enjoy these expansive views before making your way back to the trailhead.
