Let’s go to the zoo today, Pittsburgh! While we can’t really go to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, at least for the time being, the zoo’s still open virtually. That’s right. You can take a peek at several animals on webcams and see what they’re up to, but that’s just the beginning of the virtual fun.
All you need to embark on a virtual tour of the Pittsburgh Zoo is a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone, and an internet connection.

The zoo features two webcams – the penguin cam and the cheetah cam – and you can watch them anytime of the day or the night.

Start your trip with a visit to the penguin exhibit which you can find here. There, you’ll meet the zoo’s two species of penguins – the macaroni penguins and the Gentoo penguins.

You can distinguish the two by looking for gold feathers on the head. Those with gold feathers are the macaroni penguins. You might also notice that the Gentoo penguins are a bit bigger than their macaroni companions.

After you’ve had enough watching the waddling ones, stop by and meet Zola (mom) and Rey (daughter), the zoo’s two cheetahs. You can find them here.

You can even move the camera to different areas of the penguins’ and the cheetahs’ enclosures for different views.

Did you know that other Pennsylvania zoos also have virtual experiences? In fact, if you’re looking for something to do each weekday, head over to Elmwood Park Zoo’s website.

Each weekday, beginning at 11, you can log on to Zoo School Live. During that time, you’ll get to meet some of the zoo’s animal ambassadors and ask questions too. The zoo also has webcams, games, and other fun activities for kids.
