Florida has thousands of great restaurants, including plenty of the fancy four-star variety. There are lots of expensive waterfront eateries, but to us, nothing beats a good, old-fashioned Florida fish camp. This cozy little hole in the wall is a little out of the way for most of us, but so worth the journey. Take a drive out to Treasure Camp, a fun remote restaurant in Florida.

Treasure Camp on the Suwanee is a little family-owned restaurant located in a small community called Fowlers Bluff.

It sits next to a boat launch on the Suwannee River, with beautiful views that will take you back in time to the sights and sounds of Old Florida.

This location means that hungry guests can arrive by land or sea, and the restaurant even offers pontoon boat rentals for curious visitors. The restaurant is attached to the back of a quaint old general store that serves the nearby campgrounds.

The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating for peaceful riverfront dining. The decor is delightfully rustic, with antiques, knick-knacks, and lots of Southern charm. As you would expect, guests are greeted with friendly Southern hospitality, too.

Treasure Camp serves all kinds of food, including burgers and BBQ and sandwiches, but they are most known for their delicious seafood dishes. The fried clams especially are highly recommended.

By the way, the name isn’t just a catchy title. It is believed that this area was once inhabited by several famous pirates who may have buried treasure right here, and there have been many attempts to find it over the years.

Treasure Camp is located about 30 minutes from Cedar Key, an authentic old fishing village that is definitely worth a day trip. It’s only a short drive from Manatee Springs State Park or Dakotah Vineyards and Winery, both located in nearby Chiefland. Considering all the great places nearby, we’d say this qualifies as a pretty great road trip stop.

The pace is a little slower around here, and the ambiance is very laid-back. This is the perfect spot to relax and take in some of Florida’s natural beauty and tasty cuisine.

You might even decide you want to stay awhile and take a scenic pontoon boat tour or spend the night at one of the on-site cabins.
