Fort Scott dates back to when the fort was first established back in 1842, and soon, the town grew. In 1899, “street fairs” were becoming popular all over the country, and Fort Scott decided to throw the best one of all.

People came from far and wide to view it, and took ideas back home to their hometowns to create parades of their own. Though Fort Scott’s festival stopped for a while, it resumed in 1980 and has been going strong ever since. This year, they’re celebrating their 40th anniversary!

The festival happens every year on the first full weekend of June, which is the perfect time for festival events. Fair food, slushies, outdoor games, and more await you! Festivals just feel like a summer thing, it’s hard to explain.

The festival is real popular with plenty of families who just want to celebrate a town’s history with food and good fun. Live entertainment and a parade make it a whole day’s celebration. This year they even have a talent show competition!

In 2020, the festival lands on June 5 & 6. Fans of Chicken Mary’s will be excited to pick up a chicken dinner behind the Lowell Milken Center on the 5th at dinnertime. For the $8 ticket price, you get a classic meal to compliment this historic festival in Kansas.
